New Hampshire Primary

I guess i don't understand the logic of our system of Primaries. Or maybe it's just i don't understand why Iowa and New Hampshire (2 teeny states) determine the fate of any candidate. There are 50 states. Huckabee wins in Iowa by a huge margin and takes 3rd in NH and now everyone is counting him out completely. Romney takes 2nd in both Primaries, probably averages a larger percentage than both Huckabee and McCain and it's like he should hang up his hat and go home. It makes no sense to me. I guess McCain is on top until the next primary in Michigan, whatever!! Obama and Hillary are neck and neck but because she won NH she's the Queen and everyone else is out.

My question is: What makes Iowa and NH so important and why should they have so much say in this?? It kills me.

Sophie and I had a great time last night, however, watching the results come in. She had to write down the number of votes and the percentage for each candidate. It was a fun conversation.

As she went down the list, she'd label them so she could keep them straight in her head.

McCain: the old guy - "we shouldn't elect an old guy because he'd probably die in office."

Romney: the Mormon - "Should i really vote for him just becuase he's mormon?"

Obama: the first African American one - "My teachers says that most people vote for him because he's good looking."

Clinton: the girl - "I like that she's a girl and she wants to be president but i don't think i like her."

Edwards: the one that looks the most like a president. - "What about Mr. Edwards? I think I like him."

So I guess we've got an Edwards fan. I did mention a time or two that it was ok to vote Romney because he's a Mormon. I don't think she believed me.

Okay, I am NO expert on this subject, but I did watch the NH debates and that gave me a lot of info and helped to narrow down who I will vote for. I think that maybe NH is important b/c there are so many independants there. I may be wrong, but I think so. I think demographic has a lot to do with the primary states. Vote on Feb. 5th. That's our date. Super Tuesday I think.

I'll definitely vote on Feb. 5th but i just hate how the political system (and the media) places so much weight on 2 states. . I don't the demographic in either state is very representative of the entire nation. It's stupid.

I don't get it either, what's really funny is that even though mccain "won" NH and Huckabee "won" Iowa, Romney still has almost double the delegates as either of them. Isn't that wierd?

Well, Romney won Wyoming (the 2nd caucus) and that is why he is ahead of everyone else, although NO ONE in the media mentions that. He came in 2nd in both NH and Iowa, which are important states because they are "purple". Sometimes they go republican and sometimes they go democrat. SO people fight for them hard. And you still get a certain amount of delegates even if you come in 2nd or 3rd, just not as many as 1st obviously. Romney actually has the most delegates (overall) right now because they start to count states they "know" he will win, like Utah for example. I'm REALLY hoping he wins Michigan, but we'll see. Cross your fingers...if you're a Romney fan that is. I agree though. It totally bugs me that the election seems to hang on two tiny states. I think everyone should vote on the same day, just like in the regular election. That way, people wouldn't become biased. Anyway....I'm done now. Sorry for rambling.

BY THE WAY!!! I'm NO expert either. The ONLY reason I know anything is because Paul follows this stuff like crazy and likes to inform me of things. Hopefully I got my facts straight.

love the ramblings. It's a crack pot system for sure but it is fun to follow.

Go Romney!
